Gail Pan Stitch Along

Hello everyone
It's time for the Gail Pan Stitchalong blog linkup over at Sunshine Quilts
I am really happy this month as I have actually finished a whole project.
It is the Stitching makes my heart happy thread holder

I used some of my Civil War fabric collection.
I am so in love with these colours
This is the inside.

I am in a Cottage Garden Threads club
I receive 4 new threads each month with a fee stitchery pattern
Gail has designed this to hold the Cottage Garden threads
they fit in perfectly I haven't lost any out of the top yet.

A lovely spotty tie finishes it off beautifully.

I haven't decided what pattern I will pick for next month.
I am currently trying to Quilt one of Gails designs
which I actually made a couple ( cough cough)
well maybe more than a couple so that may well have to take
precedence next month & a small project may be the answer.

So I am now off to Martines blog to see what everyone else has
produced for this month

Happy Stitching xx

Edited to say that I have just popped into Gails blog to find I won her give away
So excited I win an ebook copy of Take 5 Fat quarters book.

Gail Pan Stitch Along

It's time to link up with Martine over at Sunshine Quilts for the
Gail Pan Stitch along
for January I decided to do a small sampler from Gail's book
Patchwork loves Embroidery

I have bordered it with some favourite fabric.
I brought quite a few metres a couple of years ago
have no idea who it is by but this is just about all that is left.

I am undecided if I will leave it this size and make a small hanging from it
or put another couple of borders on and make a pillow.
So that is my first ( almost finish)
I am really excited by my choice for next month
I think it will be really pretty.

I also had another Gail finish
These stitcheries were a free block a few Christmas' ago
I have had them made up & quilted for a while
and then as happens it just sat and waited for me to
bind it and add a sleeve.
This is going to be an overseas gift for this Christmas.
So one gift down already.

I am excited to go visit all the other blogs and see what people are doing
to see for your selves go to
Martine at Sunshinequilting and check it out.

Bye for now
Happy Stitching.

A New Year

A new year a new start so hopefully this blog will see a bit more action.
I have decided to join with Martine from Sunshine Quilting blog
in the Gail Pan stitch along.
I have quite a few unfinished things designed by Gail and a lot more
patterns that I would like to do.
There is no pressure with this SAL if you get one thing done great if not it's not a problem
which sounds like my kind of challenge !.
So pop back on January 28th to see what I have managed to finish.

Anyway as I haven't posted here for so long I thought I would have a lot to show you but the end of the year must have been a bit quiet as there wasn't as much as I would of liked .

I did manage to complete another baby quilt and also a quilt for her Mum, she has been dropping hints to me about a quilt since I first met her so at last I managed to finish one for her.

And the quilt for Josephine as well

October was very exciting as I got to meet & attend a workshop by Jenny Doan of Missouri Star quilts she is as much fun in real life as she is on her videos.
We had a great day & I even managed to get some sewing done.
When I got home I decided to get stuck in & finish the top at least so it didn't sit in a box for a coupe of years like all my other workshop projects
So here it is, still waiting for borders I know but at least almost done

Another finish, quilts made for my daughter & her partner Thom
for Christmas.
They were from the same fabric line I just sorted the geometric from the floral I think the fabric was called sew katy sew or katy said sew something like that anyway.

Well that's all for now I'll be back for the Gail Pan reveal
later
see you then

Anyone still reading this ?????

I guess I need to apologise for being missing soooooo long from my Blog.
I have no excuse just a severe lack of motivation I guess.
Anyway at least with all the time I have been missing I should have something to show you.
2014 seems to have been dominated by Baby Quilts 3 made & delivered so far with 2 more pending.
But I did manage to complete a couple for myself, first up the latest finish my Granny Squares made from all my scraps & stash & machine quilted to her usual high standard by the fantastic

The latest Baby Quilt to be delivered to the UK was for a very special I.V.F baby
Evie Isabel

The label was Junes design in The Cottage Gardens Thread Club
I just added the words
Beautiful design courtesy of

The next quilt was made for a new Family member
Mia Hala

Fabric for both these Baby Quilts was Love Surrounded by Deb Strain

And finally another finish for me a Sisters Choice

The first Baby Quilt made this year was a Chevron made again from mainly stash & a cute
Winnie the Poo design
It was the first time I have attempted this pattern & I really enjoyed it
Great pattern for a boy
This was delivered to a gorgeous cutie named
River Hendrix

I also found some time to make these couple of
cheeky chaps as a 2nd birthday present for my Grandson Seth
Meet Erik the Viking & Jack the Pirate
Pattern by the fantastically talented

We have also had a few family things going on
My youngest daughters partner graduated from the Police Academy
It was a long & hard time for them both but all the hard work paid off
We are very proud of them both.
I am looking forward to October when I will be going to a workshop with the lovely
Jenny Doan of Missouri Quilt Company
at the AMQC in Adelaide.

So I think that is enough for now.
I'm glad to be back.

Wow Has it been that long !!!!

Apparently it must of been.
Time seemed to of gone very quickly these past few months.
I have been quite busy in the sewing room
We were blessed with a new member of the family
another Great Niece
Freya
So of course a new quilt was needed

I used some Michael Miller fabrics & stitcheries from
Nice People Nice Things by Hugs with Helen

The Quilty girls & I had another lovely weekend in Carrickalinga
I took my machine again but this time didn't make anything new
instead finishing off some ufo's.
First off the block were the blocks I made on our last trip
really pleased with how this has turned out, a brown border
waits to be put on to finish it off.

Next some Bow Tie blocks made with left over fabric from my
Shoo-Fly blocks again waiting for a border.
It will only be a table topper but is so super sweet.

And finally the Shoo-Fly top.
I really, really love this.
I have a few plain blocks to cut to finish off one side
then I am thinking of an appliqued border.
I have been trawling through my Kim Diehl
books deciding on which one to do & enjoying
myself greatly doing so.

I treated myself to some new furniture in my sewing room
good old Ikea.
It has made the room look much brighter & I am very happy
working in there.

This is the newest fabric I am working with at the moment
Michael Miller again
Zoology
This one is for another new family member
cousin this time.

Well I think that brings me up to date with the sewing so far
I hope not to be away quite so long.

Until next time

Happy Stitching

Yes I am still here.

Although you probably wouldn't think so as it's been ages since I posted. No excuse I had some personal reasons for taking a break but have decided to get over it. I have no control over who reads this blog so it's either accept that someone you don't want to read it, can or give it up and as I'm not ready for that I'm back .

So first up some finishes achieved recently

A Snowball Quilt made with Kansas Troubles Fabric and all hand quilted.

This Quilt was made for a recent arrival the gorgeous Sienna Grace
The cream fabric has the Three Little Pigs on it, so cute.
This was machine pieced and quilted.

A wall hanging pattern by Kim Diehl
Pattern in her book Simple Traditions

These blocks are my Sugar Block Club blocks so far for this year
I have July's cut out and waiting to go
Some have been quite challenging as I am not a fan of paper piecing
I am always very happy when the block of the month doesn't contain any.

I am, very slowly, making some small granny squares
and crocheting them together in nine patches
always a Quilter even when crocheting.

The Quilty girls & I had a smashing weekend away in June
a couple of us took our machines with us and I took
the chance to make a Log Cabin top.
This is a pattern I have always wanted to do since
I started patchwork but never seemed to get around to it
I have more material and will make more blocks
.

I have joined in with Hanne
( and lots of crafters around the World)
for the Annual Tour de Fabric
Hoping to finish off a few items including the latest
Baby Quilt
Well it's nice to be back
Hope to get some Blog reading done myself

Busy weekend

Well I can't believe that another month has disappeared in a blink of an eye (or so it seems!!)......but at least I have something to blog about ...

The Friday Fabricholic decided to have a small roadtrip this friday as Val had found another fabric supply for us to support :).
Lyn runs her business from her home, she does shows and is quite happy for you to go and see her selection by appointment ....I guess I was expecting just a small amount of choice boy was I wrong!! she has all of Lynette Andersons new line and much much more.
Her pool table was covered in boxes of fat quarters,eighths,50cm width of fabric, books etc etc then there is a room set out like a Quilt shop with bolts. well worth a visit.
For Adelaide quilters she is just off Henley Beach rd the business is called Quilter Quarters so if you would like to visit call Lynette Buttfield on 0427618739...we even got morning tea..
This is the small selection I was tempted to buy, a few Civil war fats in pink and brown and yes before you ask I have got a project for them :) and a jelly roll
" Independence Trail" by Minick and Simpson and no I don't have a project for that..but the rule is that when you open a jelly roll you have to replace it on the shelf..or is that just in my house !!

Next is my TA DAH moment....... Yes Flowerdale is finally finished and up on the wall...I am so pleased with this,it looks lovely in the dining room really finishes the room off... so thanks once again to Gail Pan for a great pattern, now I have to tackle quilting Beries and Bluebirds !!

I am still toodling along with the Sugar Club blocks number 3 was a pleasure to do went together like a dream

unlike number 2 which was paper pieced and drove me nuts!! took me nearly all day and 2 centres to get it together, it's still a bit wonky but will have to do I'm sure it's nothing I can't work out when it comes to sewing it all together
Look forward to April 1st when we get number 4 and of course the yummy recipes that come with it

We had the Saturday girls get together here, so I baked a cake !! wasn't bad ...we had a great day lots of chatter, laughs and a little bit of sewing ...Love these days you feel so invigorated after all the problems of the World have been solved ...well mainly those in our little world but thats enough ... I think the company of other Quilters in so important you get friendship and support which I think is enough to keep you sane.

Now those of you who read this blog will know that I have been educating Seth in the art of Fabric selection by taking him to many Quilt shops.
We decided yesterday that it was time to move on to the next sstage so I now have an assistant cutter

 Disclaimer

No small child was injured in the taking of this photo..
Don't you love the concetration on his face he has played with this cutter ( without the blade!!) all week he loves it Little Quilter in the making :)

Hope your weekend was as fun-filled as mine I'm off for a cuppa and tidy up the sewing room make room for my new purchases.
Happy Quilting

Busy Busy Busy

Was a really busy weekend we had a get together on Saturday at Shays
there was lots of laughter, chatter & of course chocolate.
Lorraine brought show & tell, her Antique Quilts that were a recent purchase on her trip to the USA.
They were brought at Huston
First up was a 1920's Pickle Dish

Beautiful hand quilting

Her second quilt was a Feathered Star
Denise & I decided to try it out
Very snuggley..

Again stunning hand quilting
Lorraine was also lucky enough to get some history with it including pictures of the maker & the recipient.
Go to her blog for the full story

Tara showed her Mrs Billings she only has 2 borders left to go

Friday saw me at our Friday quilting, there has been a bit of a change in the group so we decided on a new name for a new start so let me introduce
" The Friday Fabaholics"
We were at Lorraines lovely company, good food, plenty of chatter & laughs ummm seems as if Quilt get togethers follow a similar pattern ....

I am now on the borders of my Flowerdale
Hope to have that done in the next couple of weeks

Lastly today was a Baby shower for my daughters best friend from primary school
I am making her a Quilt for when the baby arrives so just ran up a blanket
( no wadding) with a cream minky on the back.
It was a hot steamy weekend here hope you are keeping cool in Australia and warm elsewhere else

Favourite Thing Friday

So finally managed to get Blogger to co-operate so I can make this actually on Friday ....

Linking up with the lovely & I may say extremely humerous Shay over at Quilting in my pajamas

My Favourite thing this week is a new POM....Pattern of the month

I had decided that this year,as every year really,I was going to finish all the half done things languishing in my sewing room so of course when I saw The Sugar Block Club on Amys Blog I leapt in & signed up !! Who could resist a block pattern/ instruction email plus recipe every month for under $8 Bargain so I emailed on Sunday got my first block email on Weds & sewed the block on Thursday

I recieved a lovely parcel from Santa ( AKA my hubby & Somerset Patchwork ) which included some 2inch Clamshell papers & template so I have been having a play with them as well ....Yes I know thats another new project but it was Christmas

Lastly a pic of my Niece with her Mr MaGoo made from a Melly & Me pattern & kit my girls gave her for Christmas she had a bit of help from her Nanny but did a lot herself

So Hope to manage to post more often this year & wishing everyone a Happy New Year & plenty of stitching time
